Scotland Crushed by Germany in Euro 2024 Opener

Scotland's Euro 2024 campaign got off to a disappointing start as they were heavily defeated by Germany in their opening match.

The Scots were outclassed by a clinical German side who took a commanding 5-1 victory.

Scotland fell behind early on when Timo Werner fired Germany ahead after just 10 minutes. The Scots were unable to recover from this early setback and Germany went on to dominate the match.

Marco Reus doubled Germany's lead in the 25th minute and Thomas Müller made it 3-0 just before half-time. Scotland pulled a goal back through Che Adams shortly after the break, but Germany restored their three-goal advantage through Leroy Sané.

Germany continued to press for more goals and they eventually got their fifth through Jamal Musiala in the 87th minute. The win puts Germany in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages, while Scotland will need to improve their performance if they are to have any chance of progressing.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke said after the match: "We were outplayed by a better team tonight. Germany were clinical in front of goal and we made too many mistakes. We need to learn from this and improve if we want to have any chance of qualifying for the knockout stages."
